But The Greatest Of These is Love

I think I caught a glimpse of Heaven today
When we didn’t push and rush about our way
When we didn’t grasp all things for just ourselves
Or idolise the goods on shelves
When we didn’t barge our way through crowds of human souls
Avoiding eyes
In fear, complacency or hate – lest we be late
For those important things.

Instead we lined the streets in quiet millions
We shut the shops and brought the flowers
We whispered prayers and waited hours
We fed our brothers in the park with bread and love throughout the dark
And shared their moments, shared their tears.

We noticed brothers walking past
But noticed not if we were last
To sign our sorrow, say goodbye.

The World spun oddly it seemed to me
And I sensed I’m sure a family
Across our land that wanted change
For love to be the greatest way
Inspired by one to give not take
What difference would a country make?

I think I caught a glimpse of Heaven today
When we didn’t push and rush about our way
A nation stopped today to grieve
We stopped but much did we achieve
I think I caught a glimpse of Heaven today
Might we now choose the greatest way?
