Gasping For Breath

We’re all used to what we’re used to
And what we’re used to is the way
Maybe we shouldn’t be so used to
All we’re used to now today
If poisoned seas were all I knew
I know I’d think it odd
To wander down the beach one night
And see a fishing rod
If I’d not heard of rainforests
No way could I speak out
And cry ‘Protect our rainforests
We cannot live without’
If blue skies always had been grey
With day not following night
A sunny day to me would be
A strange and blinding sight
If we had always paid for air
I doubt we’d care at all
When the boy whose dad just couldn’t pay
Starts to splutter, cough and fall.
We’re all used to what we’re used to
And what we’re used to is the way
Maybe we shouldn’t be so used to
All we’re used to now today.
